Seminar on Meikrich model among CBOs:

One day seminar on Meikirch Model was held at Kalinga Eye Hosppital, Dhenkanal of NYSASDRI where total seventy numbers of participants were present including the categories of Women Self Help group members, Panchayat Raj Institution Members, local Government officials, ICDS workers, Grassroots Level Health Workers, & Youth Volunteers etc. The programme was started with welcome of participants. In the commencement of programme Dhirendra Kumar Mohanty briefly stated the objective & goal of the programme. After that Sarangadhara Samal Director, NYSASDRI discussed Meikirch Model and its benefits He was pointed out that we should strengthening our positive attitude towards health care which is related with exercise, meditation, food, culture practice and living condition. After discussion the book Meikirch Model (Odiya) was distributed to the participants.

Imparted training to member of Odisha Banasurakshya Samiti Members:
Kalinga Eye Hospital (A unit of NYSASDRI) is organising a month long capacity building training on Vision technician to promote best health practices in forest areas. The member of Bana Surakshya Samiti (Forest protection committee) that are living and working in remote and unserved forest areas are trained. The trainees are from Bhadrak, Balesore, Dhenkanal, Angul, Keonjhara, Sambalpur, Debagarh, Sudargarh, Jharsuguda, Knadhamal, Bhulbani and Rayagada districts who are participated in the programme. In the training programme we have disseminated the massages of Meikirch model related to eye care. Prevention is better than cure. Everybody should take proper care before eye diseases or blindness. We can avoid traumatic and some eye disease through use of preventive aspect, such as use of glasses, avoding hazardous materials, routine checks of eye , use clean water, clean environment, proper care and treatment during impairment stage of eye diseases. More than 2500 animators are trained from 18 district of Odisha during the year 2013. One session was also given on Meikirch Model on TOTO.

Seminar at ODM Public School, Bhubaneswar
One day training of teachers and coordinator on Meikirch model was organised at ODM Public school, Bhubaneswar on 10th May 2013. Dr. Satyabrata Minaketan, Chairman, ODM Education Group and Mr.Sarangadhara Samal, Director NYSASDRI shared Meikirch Model massages among teaching and non teaching staff of ODM public School, More than 100 participants participated in the seminar. In the seminar, students and teachers were asked different question to know more about the details of benefits through the model and how it is innovative and cost effective so far health care in concerned. The answer was given by the facilitator Mr. Sarangadhar Samal and Satyabrata Minaketan as per their own understanding. The main objective was to develop primer on Meikirch Model to use in different classes of the school like primary, Secondary and Higher secondary classes. ODM management agreed to take the initiative to the next level.

We have also planned to printout the cover page of note book of our school which will be used by our school children. We have also prepared some key massages for rural community which will make a flex poster to used by each of our women self help group member in 20 villages as a declaration sheet for them.

13 GOLDEN PRINCIPLES FOR SHG MEMBERS: “TOWARDS ENHANCEMENT OF QUALITY OF LIFE”
The group will be followed the following principles:

  • We will not adopt any unhealthy situation and always maintain tress free environment.
  • We will avoid emotional risk behaviour and psychosocial pressures.
  • We will always take care of our biological potentiality.
  • We will do regular yoga, meditation, physical exercise and maintain a joyful life.
  • We will educate our children on good practices of life.
  • We will check undernourishment, inadequate personal hygiene, environment pollution, inadequate sanitation and unprotected sex.
  • We will take preventive measure for diseases rather than treatment.
  • We will keep ourselves homes and surroundings clean.
  • We will always cover our food and wash our hands before eating.
  • We will build sanitary latrines and stop indiscriminate defecation.
  • We will cultivate vegetables and fruits bearing trees around our homesteads land and use by own.
  • We will always drink potable water, use mosquito net, and avoid alcohol and tobacco.
  • We will avoid unnecessary medicine, moral hazards and unhealthy demand.

A conference Cum Expo on Challenges in Healthcare: Accessibility and Availability of Quality Healthcare

On 3rd December 2013 India Chamber of Commerce organised in association with Government of Odisha Department of Health and Family Welfare and supported by National Health Mission on Healthcare Conclave at Hotel New Marrion, Bhubaneswar. In the seminar Hon’ble Minister Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, Director General, Indian Chamber of Commerce, Principal Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, Director, National Health Mission, Odisha, Director All India Medical Science, Bhubaneswar along with many participants were participated from different Government and private medical college, NGOs, corporate, Media, social activist, people’s representative and private hospitals.
Government of Odisha has given due importance to the health care sector of Odisha, facilitating improvement in the health status of the people of Odisha with their participation, and to make health care available in a socially equitable, accessible and affordable manner within a reasonable time frame, creating partnerships between the public, voluntary and private health sector and across other development sectors.
Providing affordable treatment is a necessity today. There is growing awareness of alternative medicines and their various therapies in Odisha today. Considering the importance of alternative health care, Odisha Government has set up AYUSH (Ayurvedic, Yoga, Unanai, Siddhi and Homoeopathy) health Centres in most of the allopathic hospitals.
From NYSASDRI a team of four members headed by Mr. Sarangadhara Samal participated in the seminar. He pointed out in the seminar the Meikirch Model and its benefit. Prevention is better than cures and alternative medicine. Holistic health care approaches should be used to spread preventions in affordable and accessible ways. He explained in detail about different stages of deficiency, disorder, disability and dysfunction in human body. Simple living with regular practice of meditation, yoga, physical work, use open air, clean water and good sanitation are more useful for protect from disease. The whole conference was based on meikirch model and it is noted that the Government health policy is very much in tune with our meikirch model.
